Special Handling

Some samples require extra care and prepration during the analysis process. Our skilled laboratory personnel are experts with samples that need special handling.

Elevated Radioactivity

We work with virtually every environmental matrix. Additionally, we provide analytical support for decommissioning and demolition activities for sample matrices ranging from demolition debris, process piping coupons and diffuser coupons, to concrete. To handle this wide range of matrices, GEL has a Radioactive Material License administered by the State of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. This license authorizes GEL to receive, acquire, possess, and transfer radioactive materials.

Elevated activity samples are prepared in special rooms equipped with glove boxes, and unique sample aliquots are distributed to the individual laboratories for testing.

Asbestos and Beryllium

In cases where samples are known or suspected to contain Asbestos Containing Materials (> 1.0%) or High Beryllium Content (> 0.1% or 1000 mg/kg), GEL implements specific handling procedures and adds an extra layer of safety oversight for the analysis of these samples. To ensure proper handling, we request that samples containing or suspected of containing these materials are clearly marked on the GEL Chain of Custody form, and we encourage you to reach out to your GEL Project Manager before shipping the samples.

Our specialized laboratory is well-equipped to handle samples contaminated with asbestos and beryllium, ensuring the utmost safety and precision in the analysis process. We understand the critical importance of accurate assessment in such cases, particularly for the health and safety of individuals and the environment. Our state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained staff enable us to conduct thorough testing, providing clients with reliable data necessary for informed decisions and regulatory compliance. Trust us to deliver comprehensive analysis and expert guidance in managing asbestos and beryllium-related concerns.

Tissue

As an environmental laboratory, we are proficient in the analysis of tissue samples, a crucial aspect of environmental monitoring and ecological research. Our expertise extends to the assessment of contaminants and pollutants in various organisms, aiding in the evaluation of environmental impacts and ecosystem health. We utilize advanced analytical techniques to provide precise and insightful data, supporting sustainable environmental management and informed decision-making. Our commitment to the preservation and restoration of our natural surroundings makes us a trusted partner in environmental research and conservation efforts.

Multi Incremental Sampling (MIS)

Our laboratory provides Multi Incremental Sampling (MIS), a pivotal technique for ensuring the integrity of environmental assessments and analytical results. With state-of-the-art equipment and a dedicated team of experts, we excel in processing and analyzing samples from challenging environmental sites. MIS allows us to capture a more accurate and comprehensive representation of environmental conditions, reducing the risk of sampling bias and variability. Count on our laboratory to provide you with the most reliable data, empowering you to make well-informed decisions in the realms of environmental science, regulatory compliance, and remediation strategies.

Dioxins/Furans and PCB Congeners

GEL can provide analysis for Dioxins/Furans and PCB Congeners through our affiliate laboratory, Cape Fear Analytical, LLC (CFA), located in Wilmington, NC. As an extension of GEL, CFA utilizes GEL’s LIMS, Quality Systems, Project Management Team, Executive Management Team, and various other laboratory support services. CFA holds DoD ELAP accreditation, DOECAP, and certification in many states and a radioactive material license. For additional details regarding Dioxins/Furans and PCB Congener analyses, we invite you to visit Cape Fear Analytical.
