GEL Engineering can collaborate with you to upgrade an existing facility or with an entirely new waterfront development. GEL Engineering’s professionals can also conduct Dock and Bulkhead Inspections to identify deficiencies to ensure the safety of existing features. Our staff of surveyors, engineers, and other professional staff will work with you to plan and design a waterfront development that meets your needs and satisfies the requirements of state and federal agencies.

Shoreline Stabilization Planning and Permitting

Waterfront properties are prone to erosion and loss of shoreline. GEL Engineering will work with you to evaluate your shoreline and solutions to reduce or eliminate the erosion for long-term protection. Shoreline stabilization can be completed with installation of revetments, bulkheads, or seawalls, or with other natural features such as living shorelines. Living shorelines make use of natural materials like plants, sand, or rock. One advantage of living shorelines is that they grow over time, helping to accrete sediment, provide habitat for wildlife, and are favored by the regulatory agencies during the permitting process. GEL Engineering can conduct both upland and hydrographic surveys and evaluate erosional forces to find the most suitable solution for your site.

Waterfront Permitting

Waterfront permitting can be a complex undertaking and requires authorizations from State and Federal regulatory agencies. Whether you plan to build a dock, marina, or industrial facility, or install a revetment, permits are required prior to construction. The typical first step in waterfront permitting is a wetlands delineation and/or critical line survey to identify the location of water features and establish jurisdiction. GEL Engineering will collaborate with you to develop an appropriate permitting path that meets your needs and conforms to state and federal requirements. GEL Engineering’s years of experience with regulatory agencies allows us to ensure your project is designed and permitted in a timely manner.
